A few weeks ago, I took an incredible trip to one of the largest national parks in the United States: Death Valley. My boyfriend was in Vegas for work, so at the end of his contract I flew out to meet him and we spent a breath-taking two days camping in the park and doing our best to take it all in. We saw a plethora of diverse landscapes - and still didn't come close to seeing even a fraction of what is out there. We found ourselves driving past sand dunes only to turn a corner into chocolatey canyons that wound their way to the cracked desert floor. I won't spoil the story of our adventures in this post, as I intend to tell it through a short web comic, but the scenery was so awe-inspiring and the experience of being there so magical that I thought -- even just the reference images and sketches are worth their own post. All of the photographs were taken by my boyfriend while I was busy sketching. (One of the benefits of dating a professional photographer -- your vacation photos never disappoint!).
